Anyone using 4k USB capture cards with TD?

I am migrating a working 4k project from a Desktop system with Blackmagic PCI cards to a high spec laptop and as such need to use USB capture cards. As far as I am aware there are no 4k USB capture cards that can use a native driver in TD, so I have been trying to use the WDM/Foundation Media driver but am only getting 1080p into TD (Video Device In TOP) with the AverMedia 4k USB capture cards I purchased (great value and can easily do 4k in other software on the laptop).

Has anyone got ANY brand of 4k USB capture card working in TD?
If so can you provide model name?

Was originally looking at getting the Magewell 4k USB capture cards but at $650 a pop and a high chance I will have the same issue it would be an expensive test.

Thanks.

Well the Magewell devices have been getting rave reviews everywhere - search this forum for ‘magewell’ to see a few - they require no driver and no setup. So if you want to do usb capture that is the only brand I would really recommend, definitely not any blackmagic usb device.
The capture hdmi plus seems designed for 4k: magewell.com/products/usb-capture-hdmi-plus

I had the opportunity to test the Magewell pro capture hdmi 4k USB device.
It’s plug n’ play but it’s worth noting that there is a considerable delay (about 15 frames) when inputting a 4k signal into TouchDesigner (using MediaFoundation).

Thanks for the input. I actually got the Avermedia cards working in 4k (sort of) - I didnt see the Signal Format parameter in the Media Foundation where you can specify resolution. So once set I can get it sucking in 4k but like the Magewell cards there is a delay so get ‘skipped’ frames in real time which is no good for my use. Oh well trying to push technology to the limit sometimes doesnt work out. Desktop setup with PCI cards is the way to go for my project. However 1080p kills it on the laptop! Love TD.

Hey ! Do you have any updates with using Magewell usb capture card? I am also researching for a production and I am interested if there is a solution for capturing live feed from a camera that outputs hdmi/sdi/ndi to a laptop with Touchdesigner —> projector? The distance the signal should be transmited is 100m from the camera to the laptop.
I looked at bird dog studio. But I can’t find info about the length of the Ethernet cable should be safe in terms of latency and if it is a plug and play Camera —> bird dog box ---->ethernet cable —>Touchdesigner Ndi top in. Can anyone help? I don’t have budget for tests unfortunately.

Cheers!
