Title: TOUCHDESIGNER WORKSHOP/HACKATHON

Focus: Derivative is excited to announce our first TouchDesigner hackathon at our Toronto headquarters this Feb 11-12. The focus will be on connecting TouchDesigner to a wild variety of devices we will have on hand. Arduino, LEDs, lasers, Kinect, micro projectors, cameras and more will be available. Attendees are also encouraged to bring any devices that they are currently working with. There will be a couple hours of lessons in the morning followed by extended lab hacking time in the afternoon. There will not be an introduction to TouchDesigner lesson, it is expected attendees are familiar with TouchDesigner at a basic level. Space is limited so please reserve your spot as soon as possible!

Title: Visual Show: Towards Video Mapping and Beyond

Focus:During this workshop we will enter the world of entertainment and the visual arts in VJ style through the free software TouchDesigner , used by the most important players in the entertainment industry. We will address the issues of video mapping and, passing through the 2D / 3D motion graphics, with practical examples illustrate the principles of the interaction of the video effects with surface controller, with music and sounds, gestures and objects.

Title: Intro to Generative Visuals with TouchDesigner
Instructor: Quentin Bleton and Guillaume Bourassa

Focus:This in-depth training of 24 hours in eight parts, introduces participants to basic concepts of interactive visual creation with TouchDesigner. This Canadian software is recognized worldwide as a reference tool for interactive visual high-level productions. The overall objective is to train artists and industry professionals to create generative and interactive visuals that he can incorporate it into their practice.

Participants will learn about the software interface, discover the tool families, how to use video, images and 3D geometry, mathematics and will be introduced to the integration of interactive control interfaces, all by performing exercises and small projects

Objectives and Course Content:

- Learn to use interface;
- Know the tools families;
- Use video, images and 3D geometry;
- Use mathematics;
- Learn to integrate interactive control interfaces like Kinect (camera), the Leap Motion (hand movement) or other types of controllers;
- Optimize the use to use the software to its full potential;
- Use OSC, MIDI or ArtNet to connect to other external control software and interfaces;
- Perform exercises and small projects;
- Train artists and industry professionals to create generative and interactive visuals that he can incorporate it into their practice.

Focus: Led by longtime Ghost River Theatre audiovisual designer and programmer Matthew Waddell, this TouchDesigner workshop for beginners is meant for anyone who would like to quickly get up to speed on working with the software.

OCTOBER 2016

Title: MediaArt with TouchDesigner. 3 Month Course.
Instructors: Yan Kalnberzin & Evgeniy Afonin
Dates: 10 Oct 2016 - mid Jan 2017
Location: Moscow, Russia
Focus: This course is aimed to bring students from zero level of experience with TouchDesigner to a stage where they understand the logic of the program, make their own works and continue diving deeper on their own. Interactive Video and 3D Graphics, sound analyzing, sensors and data exchange, and Python scripting will be covered. This course is for VJs, visual and media artists, motion and graphic designers, technical directors. One of the goals is to evolve new people in TouchDesigner community, get acquainted with talented people and give them tools. 
We study 3 hours 2 days a week (Mon/Wed) for 3 months. This gives students time to digest the knowledge with less stress. and come up with more questions based on their own experiments.
Traditionally in the end of the course we plan an exhibition of student's media art works.
