NOVEMBER 2018

Title: CREATING IMMERSIVE EXPERIENCES IN THE REAL WORLD WITH TOUCHDESIGNER by Make+Think+Code@PNCA
Date: Tuesday & Thursday, November 27 & 29, from 6 pm to 9pm
Location: Make+Think+Code@PNCA, 511 Northwest Broadway, Room 217, Portland, OR 97209
Instructor: Justin Patrizi
Experience Level: Beginner
Cost: $150
Focus: Few applications are as versatile for creating a real-time experience as TouchDesigner: the node-based programming environment that lets you take nearly any kind of input (MIDI, Kinect, your webcam, 3D models, data sets, Python code), and produce nearly any kind of output (projection maps, LED lighting, video, generative graphics, audio). The applications are nebulous, from arena-scale concert lighting and video design, to trade show presentation, to large interactive art installations. Despite the limitless options, there are some key principles that apply to any TouchDesigner program; we will take an in-depth look at the signal flow of inputs, modifiers, and outputs, as well as building several examples with different forms of media.

DECEMBER 2018

Title: AUDIO VISUALIZATION FOR LIVE PERFORMANCE WITH TOUCHDESIGNER
Instructor: Markus Heckmann
Dates:Saturday December 1st, 10 AM – 5 PM
Location: Electric Perfume, Toronto
Experience Level: Beginner
Cost: CDN$120.00 + HST
Focus: When TouchDesigner was initially created it was done so with the stated goal to be a platform for live generative art with a strong inclination towards live music visuals. This workshop will focus on tools and techniques available in TouchDesigner to create live video for music performances. During the 4 hours we will look at Audio-Visualization techniques, see how audio analysis can be done in TouchDesigner, connect external hardware like Midi Controllers or OSC driven applications and get a closer look at how TouchDesigner can directly interact with Ableton Live.

WORKSHOP PREREQUISITES
To move fairly swiftly, a basic understanding of the TouchDesigner interface is required. There will be no introduction to the basic principles of the software.

If you want to get up to speed before attending the workshop, look at the training resources available on the Derivative website.

Instructor: Ilze Bride
Experience Level: Beginner
Cost: Members $100, Non-Members $125
Focus: n this workshop we will only be scratching the surface of the multi-media software tool TouchDesigner. The focus will be placed on creating real-time generative visuals and video mapping them on 3-dimensional objects. TouchDesigner will not only blow your mind with its creative possibilities, but will also enable you to construct complex multi-media projects and tailor them to your specific needs and outcomes. This workshop is designed to teach both newcomers as well as participants who attended the previous Video Projection Mapping workshop and used the Resolume Arena software. Get ready for an exciting programming adventure.

This workshop is recommended as a companion to the Video Projection Mapping workshop. Be sure to bring your DIY spirit and a laptop (Mac or PC). Please email workshops@lift.on.ca by Monday November 26, 2018 if you do not have a laptop and wish to take this workshop. Title: FESTIVAL LMDP > *"VISUAL SHOW WITH TOUCHDESIGNER" WORKSHOP
Instructor:
AM Artist, Andrea Montis and Simone Murtas
Dates: Monday December 17th, 4 PM –10 PM
Location: Kyberteatro Cagliari, Via Newton, 12
Experience Level: Beginner
Cost: € 35.00 per person / With Student discount: € 20.00 per person

This little "Visual Show course" is aimed at musicians, DJs, VJs, multimedia artists, visuals and digital artists and interested to this topic who wants to enrich their creations with visual content. We will use the multimedia environment TouchDesigner that allows to process graphics and music through a very intuitive graphical interface and without using programming code. We will exploit the videomapping basics and generative graphics to build a simple, but suggestive visual system that can accompany a concert or a performance even in closed environments, small and without particular structures such as stages or projection screens. The system will animate the graphics based on the set parameters, analyzing the sound and the music in real time and by processing the data provided by the Kinect motion sensor.

Skills requested to partecipate: Basic computer skills, you do not need to be able to program.

Tools requested for the workshop: a PC or MAC and TouchDesigner software (downloadable and usable for non-commercial use)

What we will use: TouchDesigner software (downloadable) and usable for free for non-commercial uses)

What we will do: we will build together an example of projection of animated graphics responsive to music

INFO ARTISTS:

AM Artist is born within the LabVega interdisciplinary laboratory, from the meeting between Andrea Montis (musician and artist) and Simone Murtas (computer scientist and visual digital artist). Their projects aim to explore the world of multimedia arts, combining music, video, computer science and theater with the latest interactive technologies and the most modern electronic devices.
