two kinects on one desktop computer

Postby ruigato » Fri May 18, 2012 7:16 pm

hello,

i've tried connecting two windows kinects to a macbook pro running windows 7 64 bit, and no problems, everything worked has expected

when i try to do the same on a desktop computer (running windows 7 also), i get erratic behavior on kinect 2. sometimes it disappears, other times i only get kinect 1 available. I watched the device manager and the erratic behavior also shows there, with an exclamation point showing up sometimes over the icon of one of the kinect cameras.

i suppose the problem is connected to the usb root hub that the desktop computer is using to route the USB ports, so i will try to get my hands on a pci -> usb 2.0 card, and see if it goes away

anyone tried this?

cheers,
Gato

just installed a PCI USB 2.0 expansion card on the desktop, all good now, both kinects working fine

it seems that they are bus ungry! not to admire, with 1280x960 RGBA + 640x480 A + 4 audio streams

Also make sure you are using the power supply included with the Kinect and do not try to run them off just USB bus power. Although the green LED on the front will make it look like the Kinect will work with just a USB connection, its behavior can be erratic and Microsoft recommends always using the power supply.
