In completion of the class of 2008 USC SCA IMD MFA, S[t]imulation was a 12x8 foot interactive painting in which the texture of the actual painting was virtually processed in Touch and then projected back onto itself to scale. Using frame differencing to do motion detection, the piece was designed to privileged calmness in the viewer, using motion sensing to disrupt the image. However, unlike a game, interactivity here was not intended to be indexical but rather exploratory. Here is some video documentation: vimeo.com/1120139?pg=embed&sec=1120139Jarrett was an centrally involved in setting up the animation pipeline, stimulate2.toe (28 KB), and he deserves a great deal of credit for his time as well as his patience. Because we used two projectors there is a certain redundancy in the pipeline here (also, to use this you’d have to supply your own tiff and aiff), but at base, i think that this is a very sound structure that i will reuse in the future. Thanks you Jarrett, Greg, Ben, and Malcolm for your faith and support.
