FIXED: .cmd file association hijacked

Postby rcc » Fri Aug 03, 2012 12:29 pm

It appears that TouchDesigner creates a .cmd file extension association that causes TouchDesigner to be launched unexpectedly.

I was running a utility program related to 'Acronis TrueImage 2012' (specifically the TI2012 Cleanup utility) and every time I executed it I observed TouchDesigner launching.

I checked the registry and found that TouchDesigner had registered itself as an application for .cmd files

I had to say that seems like a very disruptive thing to do. I had to uninstall TouchDesigner and I'm still trying to get my registry back to a working state to support .cmd files normally.

I thought I should make you aware of this issue.

Thanks for the input. We'll remove .cmd associations from our installer. It's an old legacy concept that nobody uses anymore (having a tscript script in a .cmd file and launching TD with it running on startup)

What you could do is to download Autoruns from technet.

In the "Image Hijacks" tab (or at the bottom of the "Everything" tab), you should find the cmd extension association like this:

To uncheck it may solve the issue.

Sorry, I didn't mean that it was fixed yet, only that a fix was coming.
Now however it is actually fixed in the next experimental build.
